The prostration of the universe to Allaah

Image
Praise be to Allaah.   Note that this universe and all the created beings in it is in thrall to Allaah, whether by choice or by force. The believer worships Allaah by choice and is rewarded for his worship. Even though the kaafir may be alienated from his Lord and failing to worship Him, the atoms of his body and everything in him is worshipping Him and glorifying Him, but because our understanding and perception are limited, we are unaware of that tasbeeh (glorification of Allaah) and unable to understand its nature. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):  “The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His Praise. But you understand not their glorification. Truly, He is Ever Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving” [al-Isra’ 17:44]   What this means is that every created being is in a state of submission to Allaah and worships Him in a manner appropriate to its situation. Jumuah Activities

Image
It’s Jumuah! The most blessed day of the week! So how do we make the most of it? Depending whether Friday is a day off for you or not, we’ve covered below some key activities to make most of your Jumuah which you can judge how best to fit in your life insha’Allah. The important thing to remember is that this day is truly special and you should give it due consideration. THE TIMING OF JUMUAH Many people forget that Jumuah starts from the Maghreb of Thursday, i.e. the night before and ends with maghreb of Jumuah. So as soon as the maghreb for Thursday hits, remember it’s Jumuah and you should try and fill up your hours with sending blessings upon the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him), recitation of Quran, Tahajjud and extra remembrance of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala). THE MORNING HOURS During the early hours of Friday, we recommend you to follow the ProductiveMuslim Morning Routine, with the only difference being that for the reading Quran part, you

shake hands with a non-mahram woman

Image
Is it permissible to greet woman by shaking hands if they put part of their hijab over the hand of the man who is greeting them?. Praise be to Allaah.  It is not permissible for a man to touch in greeting the hand of a woman who is not his mahram, even if she covers her hand with her garment, because of the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari in his  Saheeh  from ‘Urwah, from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), in which she told the story of how the women gave their bay’ah (oath of allegiance) to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). She said: “No, by Allaah, his hand never touched the hand of any woman when accepting the oath of allegiance, all he said was, ‘I accept your oath of allegiance on this basis.’”  And Ahmad narrated with a saheeh isnaad from Umaymah bint Raqeeqah that she said: “I came to the Messenger of Allaah (S) with other women to give the oath of allegiance to him, and he accepted our pledge to abide by what i

The Faith in My Heart Has Wilted

Praise be to Allaah.   1 – I advise you to read the Qur’aan a great deal, and listen to recitations of Qur’aan and ponder the meanings of what you read and what you hear as much as you can. Whatever you cannot understand, ask the people of knowledge in your country or write to other scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah (Sunnis).  If you read a tafseer (commentary) on what you read, this will help you to ponder the meanings. One of the best and most concise Tafseers is  Tafseer al-Sa’di  (may Allaah have mercy on him). 2 – You should remember Allaah a great deal (dhikr), by reciting the dhikrs narrated in the saheeh ahaadeeth (authentic narrations)such as  Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah  (there is no god but Allaah),  Subhaan Allaah wa’l-hamdu Lillaah wa laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wa Allaahu akbar  (Glory be to Allaah, praise be to Allaah, there is no god but Allaah, and Allaah is great), and so on. See  al-Adhkaar by al-Nawawi and similar books.  Remembering Allaah increases one’s faith and

Removing hair

Image
What is the hair that it is permissible to remove and the hair that it is not permissible to remove? Praise be to Allaah.   Firstly:  With regard to removing hair or not removing it, the scholars divide hair into three categories:  1 – Hair which we are commanded to remove or shorten. This is known as Sunan al-Fitrah, such as removing the pubic hairs, trimming the moustache and plucking the armpit hairs. That also includes shaving or cutting the hair of the head during Hajj or ‘Umrah.  The evidence for that is the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Ten (actions) are part of the fitrah [natural inclinations of man]: trimming the moustache, letting the beard grow, using the siwaak (tooth-stick), rinsing the nose with water, clipping the nails, washing the finger joints, plucking the armpit hairs, shaving the pubes and washing oneself with water after relievi

Etiquette of Eid

Image
Praise be to Allaah.   The Sunnahs that the Muslim should observe on the day of Eid are as follows:  1 – Doing ghusl before going out to the prayer.  It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth in  al-Muwatta’  and elsewhere that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to do ghusl on the day of al-Fitr before going out to the prayer-place in the morning.  Al-Muwatta’  428.  Al- Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is mustahabb to do ghusl for Eid prayer.  The reason why it is mustahabb is the same reason as that for doing ghusl before Jumu’ah and other public gatherings. Rather on Eid the reason is even stronger.  2 – Eating before going out to pray on Eid al-Fitr and after the prayer on Eid al-Adha:  Part of the etiquette is not to go out to pray on Eid al-Fitr until one has eaten some dates, because of the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from Anas ibn Maalik, who said that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of

Laylat al Qadr

Image
How should we spend the night of Laylat al-Qadr? Is it by praying, reading Qur’aan and the Seerah (Prophet’s biography), listening to sermons and lessons and celebrating that in the mosque?. Praise be to Allaah.   Firstly:  The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to strive hard in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadaan as he did not do at other times, praying and reading Qur’aan. Al-Bukhaari and Muslim narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that when the last ten days of Ramadaan began, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would stay up at night, wake his family and tie his lower garment tight. According to Ahmad and Muslim: he would strive hard in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadaan as he did not do at other times.  Secondly:  The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) urged us to spend the night of Laylat al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of
