Ruling on offering congratulations at the beginning of the Hijri year

Image
What is the ruling on offering congratulations on the occasion of the Hijri new year and saying “Kull ‘aam wa antum bi khayr” or praying for blessing, or sending a card with best wishes for blessings in the new year? Praise be to Allah   Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: What is the ruling on congratulating people on the occasion of the Hijri new year, and how should one reply to a person who offers congratulations?  He replied:  If someone offers you congratulations, then respond to him, but do not initiate such greetings. This is the correct view concerning this matter. So if a person says to you, for example, “Happy New Year”, then you can say, “May Allaah make it a good and blessed year for you.” But you should not initiate such a greeting, because I do not know of any report that the salaf [early generations of Islam] congratulated one another on the occasion of the new year, rather the salaf did not regard the first o

Men and women talking to one another on the internet within the limits of good manners

Well a year from now one of my friend, a girl, had introduced me to one of her online brother..and we have been talkin online for about a year now. Its not like we have ever talked about anything indecent, we talk in a well respected manner, and he sometimes jokes around,too. We both are aware of our religion..and we know how it is haraam to have girlfriends or boyfriends. But over time we both hav grown interested in each other.. and he has told me that he wants to marry me, but right now is too soon, i m only 16 and will be 17 in 2 months... the situation is too hard to explain...and i am really confused on what should be done..and what shouldnt. I really dont want to do anything that is Haraam or isnt right.. and i do have faith in Allah..that if he is good for me oneday we will be together... So i just needed some advice on this.. is talkin to a non-mahram guy online wrong?.. And this is the only way we know each other which is through internet...we havent met..but we have

Christian Wants to Become Muslim

Image
I am a Christian,  I have not read about the prayers anywhere yet, at least how they are performed. (movements, speech ie: what is said if anything specific). How can one convert not knowing Arabic? Isn't this the only language the Qu'ran should be read and recited in? Praise be to Allaah.   Prayer is the greatest of the pillars of Islam after the Shahaadatayn (twin declaration of faith). What is obligatory is five prayers during the day and night. This establishes a relationship between a person and his Lord, in which a person finds peace, happiness and contentment, as he stands before his Lord and speaks to Him, and calls upon Him and converses with Him, and prostrates before Him, complains to Him of his worries and sorrows, and turns to Him at times of calamity.  Whatever has been said to you about the prayer, nothing can really describe how great and important it is, and no one can appreciate it except the one who tastes its joy and spends his nights i

Wearing short or tight clothes in front of other women

Image
           Praise be to Allaah. Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen was asked about this and he replied:   Tight clothing which reveals a woman’s charms is forbidden, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: men with whips like the tails of cattle with which they strike the people – meaning wrongfully and aggressively – and women who are clothed yet naked, and walk with an enticing gait.” The phrase “clothed yet naked” was interpreted as meaning that they wear short clothes which do not cover that which should be covered of the ‘awrah. It was also interpreted as meaning that they wear light clothes that do not prevent others from seeing the woman’s skin underneath. And it was interpreted as meaning that they wear tight clothes, so that they are covered and cannot be seen, but their bodily charms can be seen.

Is Your Name Forbidden? Probably.

Image
Praise be to Allaah. there are names which we are forbidden to use, examples of which are as follows: It is forbidden to use any name which belongs only to Allaah, such as al-Khaaliq (the Creator) and al-Quddoos (the Most Holy), or names which do not befit any except Allaah, such as Malik al-Mulook (King of Kings). This is the consensus of the fuqaha’. Ibn al-Qayyim said that names which belong only to Allaah include: al-Ahad (the One), al-Samad (the Eternal), al-Khaaliq (the Creator), al-Razzaaq (the Provider), al-Jabbaar (the Compeller), al-Mutakabbir (the Majestic), al-Awwal (the First), al-Aakhir (the Last), al-Baatin (the Hidden) and ‘Allaam al-Ghuyoob (the Knower of the Unseen).  ( Tuhfat al-Mawdood , p. 98). The evidence that it is forbidden to call anyone by a name which belongs only to Allaah, such as Malik al-Mulook (king of kings), may be seen for example in the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him);

I am asking you a question about cheating.I have know friends who are muslims and are  cheating and I also have been cheating and helping others into cheating too.I know that it is haram but the only reason why I cheat sometimes is because my family excepts me to do very well in school and sometimes when I dont cheat I sometimes get bad scores,but not all the time I do cheat and also this is the same reason that's goes with my friends since they are scared of their family since they might be strict on him for not having bad grades, and we would like to know on how to stop our selfs from cheating and how to deal with our family if our grades are horrible since our family will make a big deal that we got a horrible grade.We sometimes try to stop ourselfs from cheating but we can't help it,please do help us in this situcation. كيف نبتعد عن ظاهرة الغش في المدرسة أثناء الامتحانات ، إننا نغش طمعاً في الحصول على درجات عالية. إن من يدفعنا لذلك هم آباؤنا ، إننا نخاف أن ن
